Carefully vacuum your car, ensuring that all surfaces are clean. Shake out the floor mats to eliminate any crumbs that may attract rodents and insects. To preserve vinyl, plastic, and leather surfaces, wipe them down with a high-quality conditioner. For odor control, place an open box of baking soda inside the car to absorb any unpleasant smells.

Check the Tires
Wash the tires with soapy water or use a good tire cleaner. Your tire pressure should be at the recommended pounds per square inch (PSI).

Change the Oil
Maintaining the oil in a classic car with its original engine is crucial, especially when it is stored for an extended period. Changing the oil and taking a short drive can help circulate it, preventing any potential corrosion. Don’t forget to replace the oil filter.

Fill the Tank
Ensuring that your car’s fuel remains in good condition is equally important. Drive your vehicle until the tank is almost empty before refilling it. Adding a fuel stabilizer will prevent the fuel from hardening. If you are preparing your car for winter storage, remember to top off the coolant to prevent the engine from freezing.

Stuff the Tailpipe
To safeguard against small animals seeking shelter in your tailpipe, take measures to cover or stuff it with steel wool. Leave a reminder note on your steering wheel to clean out the tailpipe when you retrieve your car.

Remove or Disconnect Your Battery
To avoid severe harm to older car engines, eliminate the risk of battery acid leaks by removing the battery. If you choose to keep the battery connected, be aware that the car will continue to use energy. This leads to a depletion of the battery’s charge. It’s a good idea to disconnect the battery and connect it to a battery tender.

Use a high-quality custom cover with a breathable fabric. Don’t use plastic or any material that will trap moisture, which can damage the paint.

Remove the drain plug and open the pressure relief valve. Caution: Do not drain when the water is hot!

You may think that an unopened bag of chips won’t attract pests. Don’t depend on that. Food left for long periods in any situation will attract unwanted visitors.

Disconnect the Refrigerator and Leave the Door Open
Leaving the refrigerator door open prevents stale air and condensation that can cause mold.

Use RV-Approved Non-Toxic Antifreeze
To keep your pipes from freezing during frigid weather use RV-approved, non-toxic antifreeze.

Pressurize Your System
Start with the faucet closest to the water pump and slowly open the hot and then the cold valves until the antifreeze appears.

Cover External Vents to Prevent Rodents
Don’t let your RV become a home for rodents during extended storage.

Protect the Tires
Unload your vehicle so that the minimum weight is on the tires. Inflate your tires to the recommended operation pressure plus 25 percent. Don’t exceed the rim manufacturer’s inflation capacity.

You’ll be storing your boat for an entire season. You want it clean and free of last summer’s trash when you are ready to put it in the water next summer.

Add a Fuel Stabilizer and Fill the Tank
Condensation can form in an empty gas tank, causing corrosion or worse if the moisture freezes. Fuel stabilizer will prevent this from happening and your fuel will be ready to go when you are.

Change the Oil
Water or acids that have gotten into your oil can corrode the engine. Change the filter and flush it out so that no water remains. Next, add new oil.

Refresh the Coolant System
Drain the current coolant, flush with water, and fill with fresh antifreeze. Make sure you’ve diluted the antifreeze to specification. This will protect your engine from freezing and corrosion.

Disconnect the Battery
Don’t allow your battery to drain over the winter. Disconnect it and top it off with distilled water. Charge it periodically to make sure it’s ready to go when you hook it back up to your boat.

Grease the Steering Mechanism
Grease the steering and control mechanisms so that they will be moving smoothly when it’s time to take the boat out again.

Remove the Drive Belts
Before storing your boat, loosen or remove the drive belts. They may crack under the stress of being kept under tension for long periods.
